Where to Get Free Diabetes Supply?

by Corona

Diabetes is a "high-cost" and "long-term" disease. Most of diabetics cannot afford the diabetic expenses, and do not have insurance.

I am 20 years old, with type 1 diabetes, and on insulin shots. My average diabetes cost varies from $200/month for diabetes strips, $150 to buy insulin, altogether $350/month.

Furthermore, I have to pay for the doctor visits and other (extra) tests (each month).

I go part time at college, and I don't have insurance. Is there any way to help me? If cannot get free diabetes supply, at least some diabetes discount supplies.

I have been asking around, but no hope for me! Should diabetics (like me) die for not affording their principal needs? At least, death is only thing I can afford to.

Get Free Diabetes Supply
by: Anonymous

Hi Corona,

Since you do not have any insurance to cover you expenses I suggest you to go to your pharmacist and ask what meters are available free.

If they do have, then you have to ask your doctor to issue for you a prescription for a blood sugar meter.

Also some diabetic supplies manufacturers gives often free meter to continue to buy from them strips.

Glaxo Smith Kline is one of Diabetic supplies manufacturers which provide free meters.

Go the their website to find out if they have any free devices or discount rates.

It also depends on the location and the policies given by your Health authorities.

YEOVIL /UK DIABETES IS DIY
by:

Hello p mose here again

Diabetes in england ,with all of the budget cuts things can only get worse,as it is we have what is called a[PRIMARY HEALTH CARE TRUST]to administer the health care system the government has now decided to scrap it and hand the budget over to the doctors !as it is i had to do my own research into t2 as it became clear that things like optitcians tests were not being offered, podistrist /diabetic diatician= a few leaflets/ and a diabetic nurse turned out to be just a nurse,so here in the uk or at least in yeovil it a diy job,the doctor wont give me a perscription for my test strips even though his blood tets are 6 weeks apart, his answer to all of my requests is[ DONT WORRY YOU WONT DIE FROM THIS ]THINGS OVER HERE CAN ONLY GET WORSE:

BRITAIN AND HEALTH CARE CUTS
by: P MOSE

Me again i did a long piece on diabetic diy in the uk but it dont look like they printed it !
anyway ,i dont know how many diabetics there are over here but with all of the cut backs and doctors not letting diabetics have test strips on perscription it will have impact on the companies that sell the gluco meters and strips ,people over here just cant aford the cost of the lancets and strips and will just go without testing them selfs ,the gulf between the have and have nots has just got bigger the difference is the have nots can die !
