Query: What is a healthy blood glucose level for a non diabetic?

by Kunvar Harsh Upveja

QUESTION: The required levels of HbA1c in case of non-diabetic individuals is same or different..???

ANSWER: Hi Kunvar Harsh Upveja,

The healthy HbA1c levels for non-diabetic individuals should strictly be within this range : 4 - 6%. In case, A1C levels are higher or lower than this normal range, then, further tests should be carried out to determine what is happening.

The ADA recommendations are given for the management of diabetics, as the majority of them do not meet this normal range of A1C.

Most of them experience higher levels of HbA1C (higher than 7.5 or 8); therefore, it is advised not to consider this levels as high (as it is for non-diabetics) as long as they do not experience any problems.

As a conclusion, a non-diabetic is considered healthy person, therefore, the normal range of A1C (4-6%) and normal blood glucose (70-100 mg/dL) is applied.

All the best!
