QUESTION: I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Now for 6 years. The bottom of my feet have begun to hurt or feel very sore.
I have bagan to walk funny. Like an old old lady. Could this be caused from the diabetes?

ANSWER: Hi Betty,
To answer your question, I need to know how well you are managing your diabetes (i.e., your blood sugar fluctuations).
In lack of that, I can only say that most probably what you are experiencing is because of diabetic neuropathy, which has affected your legs (as it usually happens in diabetics).
The second thing I'd like to know from you is your Age and your personal history of arthritis. Sometimes, the same feelings and pain is related to arthritis.
I cannot tell you exactly that yours is related to peripheral diabetes neuropathy as I do not have further details of your medical record.
Please try to keep your blood sugar as normal as possible and avoid persistent fluctuations. At the same time, please take good care of your feet:
- check them for any wound or any other problem
- wash them with warm water and soap and try to dry them up especially in between the toes
- please keep exercised, keep your feet in movement to help the blood circulation and ease the symptoms.
- you may use certain diabetic moisterizers to alleviate the soreness of your feet.
At the end, keeping your blood sugar levels as normal as possible is the best thing you can do to alleviate your feet problems.
All the best!
