How to relieve my mom's diabetic neuropathy pain?

by Ann

My mom is 65 years old, and 10 years with type 2 diabetes. Her blood sugar level has been going up and down so far; but her A1c level is good (near 6).

These last months she complained of feet and leg pain, we checked and the doctor said it's diabetic neuropathy pain. Sometimes,my mom is really bad and the pain doesn't stop for days. Can you help relieve my mom's diabetic pain?

Overcoming neuropathy pain
by: Mary Kolk

Let me share our experience of having and then overcoming neuropathy.

My husband has had type 2 diabetes for over 25 years. He suffered greatly from neuropathy in both his feet.

There were times when he was in so much pain that he would go to bed at 7:00 p.m. to fall asleep to get away from the pain.

He took neurotin for over 10 years for the neuropathy pain.

In 2002, I told my 5 grown children that in 5 years I would be pushing dad around in a wheelchair and I meant it. He could not walk more than 75 feet without sitting down because of the pain.

Suffice to say his neuropathy pain was at 10>

I read a book and that set me on a path to create a program for him. We significantly reduced our daily intake of carbohydrates and changed our lifestyle - including our eating and exercise.

Within 2 months he came off of the 43 units of insulin he was taking. His neuropathy is significantly reduced from 10> to a pain level of <1.
