How come type 2 diabetes sugar levels reach peak in the morning and down throughout the day

My dad always wakes up with high blood sugar levels (around 180 mg/dl). When he turns back home after work, his sugar level is down (around 125mg/dl).

He's on a diabetic diet, with fruits and vegetables, and fiber and whole grains. He asked his doctor about this and couldn't get the answer clearly.

Can anybody explain this "high" and "down" levels of blood sugar in type 2 diabetic? Also he quitted drinking beer, because the doc told him to. Can you explain the effect of beer on blood sugar? Thank you.

Type 2 diabetes blood sugar count
by: Alba

Hi there,

In a diabetic usually the glucose balance is impaired. In type 2 diabetes insulin is normally secreted, but its function is impaired or the body cells do not recognize it properly.

During the night, type 2 diabetes insulin is highly secreted, but can't work properly, that's why diabetics wake up with high blood sugar levels.

During the day, the insulin secretion and drugs interfere to the blood sugar levels, that's why it comes up and down.

Just follow your diabetic strategies and you'll be ok.

Take care!
