Fasting blood tests and medications

QUESTION: If I am having a fasting blood sugar test done in the morning, do I take all my night medications ?

ANSWER: Hi Beth,

To my experience, when a diabetic (or any person) who is going to perform a fasting blood glucose test, his/her doctor (or lab staff) will give directions.

However, fasting means you should not eat or drink any sugary drink (except water) for at least 8 to 10 hours.

So, if you are going to do your blood test for diabetes at 8.00 a.m, your dinner must be at 6.00 p.m and you should take your medications. There is a period of 14 hours when you don't eat or drink sugary juice (except water).

At the end, you should have your meals and medications in time although you're going to do a fasting blood sugar test..

Be always close to your doctor and follow his/her instructions, because although I'm giving you an answer, I do not know very well your case (there is much more info I should know to be exact).

Take care!

Dr.Alba

Fasting and Cinnamon
by: Anonymous

I GUESS YOUR DOCTOR WANTS TO SEE HOW WELL YOUR MEDICATION IS DOING DURING YOUR SLEEP AS YOUR BLOOD SUGAR LEVEL MAY INCREASE DUE TO NOT EATING FOR LONG HOURS, THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD BE TAKING YOUR MEDICATIONS NORMALLY.

A QUESTION PLEASE, DOES DRINKING CINNAMON TEA INCREASE MY BLOOD PRESSURE? HOW MANY CUPS CAN I DRINK PER DAY TO LOWER MY BLOOD SUGAR? I AM A DIABETES AND TAKE INSULIN.

Cinnamon Reduces Blood Pressure
by: Dr.Alba

Cinnamon can lower blood cholesterol, and therefore, indirectly will cause reduced blood pressure. So far, I have not come across any study that states "cinnamon cause high blood pressure".

You can have one or two cups of cinnamon tea or try not to exceed 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder per day. Excessive take of cinnamon is not recommended due to side effects.
