QUESTION: I WANT TO KNOW DIABETES LEVEL AFTER FOODING & FASTING FOR THE DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS.

ANSWER: Please find the required fasting blood glucose levels and after eating according to age groups, in the following:

  • Fasting Blood Glucose

  • Children - 70 - 110 mg/dL (Normal); >130 mg/dL (Diabetes).

    Adults - 70 - 100 mg/dL (Normal); >126 mg/dL (Diabetes).

    Pregnant women - 70 - 130 mg/dL (Normal); >140 mg/dL (Diabetes).

  • Blood Sugar After Eating

  • Children - <130 mg/dL (Normal); > 140 mg/dL (Diabetes).

    Adults - <140 mg/dL (Normal); >180 mg/dL (Diabetes).

    Pregnant women - 70 - 180 mg/dL (Normal); >200 mg/dL (Diabetes).

According to the latest ADA guidelines for 2011, the blood sugar levels should be individualized, i.e. each person has its own "normal" or "diabetic" blood glucose readings.

Please indicate any other inquires you have.
