Diabetes and degeneration of eyesight

QUESTION: My rottweiler Flores has more than 1 year diabetes type 1 and his eyesight is deteriorating dramatically last time (in the evening, he sees only very poor).

Besides the obligatory insulin injections, he gets some supportive herbs to feed and drink.

But is there any possibility to improve his eyesight or stop its degenaration? (certain herbs, spices, diet, therapy etc.)

The matter is very urgent!

ANSWER: Hi Matheos,

I’m really sorry for your dog and for this problem. The bad thing is that you are not able to prevent the development of this condition, known as diabetic retinopathy.

Obviously the applied treatment with insulin and the herbs, which you are giving to your dog, are not enough and you have to make a consultation with the vet about it.

However, there is a possible decision of your problem, which is laser operation. I’m not able to give you the name of certain clinic, which is doing this on dogs or the approximate price of this procedure.

I think that it would be better to find a vet, which is able to give you such advice he/she will know such details.

I hope that your dog will get better soon and such problems will not appear in the nearest future.
